Location: Arola (VB), Italy

Total Budget: 450.000 €

This project involves the complete refurbishment of a historic country house overlooking Lake Orta in northern Italy. The intervention focuses on the structural consolidation and spatial reorganization of the building while preserving its original architectural character and its strong relationship with the surrounding natural landscape.

The house is composed of a ground floor, two upper floors, and an intermediate mezzanine level positioned between the main storeys. This configuration allows the main living space at ground floor to develop as a double-height volume, where the living room and kitchen are organized within a continuous open space overlooking the landscape.

Given the exposed position of the building on the edge of a steep slope facing the forest, the project includes significant structural stabilization works. A new supporting structure was introduced to secure the façade facing the ravine, reinforcing the existing masonry and ensuring the long-term stability of the building while preserving its historic envelope.

Alongside the structural consolidation, the refurbishment upgrades the interior spaces and building systems to contemporary living standards. The intervention maintains the spatial clarity of the original house while introducing carefully integrated modern elements that enhance the connection between the interior spaces and the surrounding natural environment.

The result is a restored country residence that combines the character of the historic structure with new structural and spatial solutions adapted to its unique landscape setting.
